In Spring 2019, the Department of Sociology will offer a section of Social Change (170-380) that includes an international experience during spring break. The course will start on campus at the beginning of the spring semester, examining sociological theories about change and contemporary social movements. Over spring break, students will travel as a class to Havana to observe social change “in action,” learning from Cuban academics, visiting community projects and gaining a better understanding of this island’s history. Students return to campus to wrap up the semester in an Adelphi classroom and have the opportunity to reflect on their experience. This course is open to students of all majors and fulfills General Education requirements related to Social Sciences, Global Learning and Information Literacy.  This course will meet prior to departure.
