Overview
Lorenzo de’ Medici (LdM), situated in the heart of Tuscany, encompasses twelve campus buildings in Florence's city center. It is one of Italy's largest international institutes of higher education. Florence offers a myriad of cultural events throughout the year. Students will revel in the city's centuries-old culinary tradition, known worldwide for its exceptional local specialties and gelato parlors.  What's more, Florence's thriving economic heart focuses largely on the exciting worlds of fashion, design, luxury goods, banking and tourism.  Summer at LdM is the perfect opportunity to earn credit and experience Italian culture in a concentrated period of time. A broad selection of courses, hands-on workshops, renowned field schools, featured summer excursions, and culinary arts exploration are all part of LdM’s diverse summer offering.

Academics
The Summer Session Program consists of month-long courses in June and July. Summer Sessions are well-suited for both undergraduate students who want to study abroad and earn academic credit as well as for independent students seeking a meaningful educational experience. The summer months also offer a variety of cultural and artistic events that take place in and around LdM campus.

Italian Language is optional in the June and July Sessions. All courses, except Italian Language courses, are taught in English. LdM courses usually involve 45 to 60 contact hours per term: see course descriptions for details. Attendance is mandatory. Upon course completion students receive an academic record. The standard course load is 3-6 credits per session.

Housing
Apartments in Italy, especially in the historic centers, are all situated in antique buildings and therefore no apartment is alike.  Although LDM maintain a standard for all apartments, there are differences in appearance, general condition and travel time from the institute.

Apartments are furnished and equipped with bed linens, towels, basic pots and pans, kitchen utensils, washing machine and TV. All apartments are provided with Internet service. They are not provided with a phone or air conditioning.

The student shared apartments usually house 2-6 people. Students will not be able to choose their apartment or change roommate. Any roommate/ apartment mate request must be specified on the housing agreement form.  LdM does not have co-ed apartments. All apartments are NON-SMOKING. They are not all located in the same building, but within walking distance from the school facilities or easily reachable by public transportation.

The standard apartment bedrooms are double (2 single beds in the same room); single rooms (1 single bed in one room but in an apartment shared with other students ) are limited. If a student’s room request cannot be honored due to space limitations), LdM will assign an accommodation according to availability.

Student Support Services
A study abroad experience extends far beyond the classroom. At LdM, students get involved, develop new friendships, experience new cultures and explore many aspects of their campus and host city. LdM actively sponsors student clubs, organizations, sports activities, volunteer opportunities and much more. The LdM experience is designed to ensure that students learn not only the subject matter of their formal course of study, but also more about themselves and the world around them. A qualified and dedicated staff is ready to assist students in every aspect of their academic programs and inform them about events and news in their host city.
